Orders have been pouring in for our new booklet for historic churches, Inspiring Prayer. The booklet of prayers is designed for those new to prayer, and those seeking new ways to engage with God, and features beautiful hand-drawn illustrations.

If you’re using the booklet in your church, you can now print off and display matching posters. We have selected ten prayers and turned them into printable downloads. You can view and download the whole range from our historic churches site.

A prayer on being made redundant

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

IS-downloads2009 has not begun well for many people. With a global economy entering into recession, the new year has brought sweeping job losses right around the world. Each day sees an average 9,000 jobs lost somewhere in the world.

In response, the Church of England has published a prayer for those facing redundancy. “This is a pastoral initiative” said Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, the Rt Revd John Packer. “We need to be on the look out to support those facing redundancy. Neighbourliness is so important in crisis situations, whether it’s offering people new prayers to God, or by simply being there with a listening ear.”

The prayer is reprinted below. For more prayers, visit the Church of England site, and look out for our forthcoming booklet, Inspiring Prayer.

Instant carol sheets

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

We know how busy it can get planning for Christmas, and typing out a list of Christmas carols is not a task to look forward to. We’ve taken the liberty of typing some up for you.

If you’ve got a carol service coming up, or are going carolling in the streets, download our instant carol sheet and print off as many as you need.

It’s a word document, so you can just remove any songs you don’t want, and enter any we haven’t thought of.

Sing Christmas

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

Christmas is the perfect opportunity to take mission events out of the church building and into the community. Sing Christmas is a network doing just that, organising carol services in pubs, community centres, or “wherever there is a gathering of people”. The services are all held at the same time on the same day, and broadcast live on local radio. Last year’s event linked up over 100 community venues, and participants included MPs, local sportsmen, and this rather crowded-in brass band.

Visit singchristmas.org.uk for ideas, downloads, and details of how you and your church could get involved this year.

Sing Christmas is focused on the Leicestershire area, but why not browse the site and be inspired. Everybody knows Christmas carols, and many people enjoy singing. Rather than wait for them to come to church, why not take the carol service to them? (One of the best carol services I’ve ever been to was in a pub!)

Walking Bible

Friday, September 26th, 2008

An unusual Bible website launched today aiming to help people memorise verses by setting them to music. The team behind Walking Bible have penned 875 mini-songs for downloading and inserting into iPod playlists, each with a distinctive lomographic image to accompany it.

“Research shows that most people know some 2000 songs off by heart but not many people know a poem or a verse” says founder Stefan Oberg. “So we have created a tool which uses music and images to help people memorise Bible verses.”

The service is available free of charge at walkingbible.com, in English and Swedish, with more languages coming soon.
